‘Amazing Acts of Character’ for February 2016
Fayetteville – Each month through Cumberland County Schools’ Amazing Acts of Character recognition program, schools are asked to nominate students who display character above and beyond expected behavior.
One student was recently selected from individual school nominations for displaying ‘amazing acts of character’ and will be recognized and honored during the Cumberland County Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, March 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of CCS’ Central Services building. The honoree is as follows:
Bryson McClure, a kindergartener at Glendale Acres Elementary School – According to Kindergarten Teacher Lee Ann Morris, Bryson has exhibited the trait of trustworthiness on more than one occasion this school year. The six year old’s teacher said that recently her class played a game of Alphabet BINGO where prizes were awarded. Bryson won a prize. Upon placing his prize in his cubbie, he found that someone had accidentally put their prize in his cubbie as well. “He quickly came to me and turned over the treat, saying it wasn’t his,” said Morris. “He wanted to be sure that whomever won it [the prize], got it back. He could have easily said nothing and kept both prizes. Instead, Bryson told the truth about what he found in order to make sure it was returned to the rightful owner.” Morris said that on another occasion, the students were awarded Cub Coins for good behavior. Bryson found some of the coins on the floor in their classroom. Instead of keeping the coins, he returned them to her. “As a young student, he [Bryson] is definitely on the right track,” said Morris. “He has a good heart and I trust him to do the right thing whether there is an adult around or not.”
The Amazing Acts of Character Committee selects winners based on school nominations. The winners are then recognized at the regular monthly meeting of the Board of Education, where they are presented with a special trophy and certificate.
