Young Scientists Engage in ‘Head-to-Head’ Competition at Regionals

Fayetteville – Twenty-two middle school and 25 high school Science Olympiad Teams converged on the campus of Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) for ‘head-to-head’ competition in 23 events during the Feb. 27 Fayetteville Regional Science Olympiad.

The day of activities produced the following winning teams:

Middle School B Division

1st place – Seventy-First Classical Middle School

2nd place – The O’Neal School

3rd place – R. Max Abbott Middle School

4th place – Mac Williams Middle School

5th place – HOME (Home Offering Meaningful Education)


High School C Division

1st place – Terry Sanford High School

2nd place – Cape Fear High School

3rd place – Jack Britt High School

4th place – Massey Hill Classical High School

5th place – Robeson Early College High School


This year’s Spirit Awards were given to Seventy-First Classical Middle School and E.E. Smith High School for each team’s actions and spirit throughout the day of competition.

Also, Marie Cash from the FTCC Math Department was given an Outstanding Honor Award for her many years of volunteering and leading the Write It, Do It event for both divisions.

The top three teams in each division received bids for the State Science Olympiad Tournament, scheduled at North Carolina State University (Raleigh, NC) from April 22-23.
